Medina County Job and Family Services reports SNAP, Medicaid caseloads and child welfare figures

Medina County Board of Commissioners — Debbie Kiley of Medina County Job and Family Services gave an update on benefits caseloads and child-welfare numbers, saying the agency continues to process thousands of marketplace and Medicaid-related applications and is managing a significant child-protective caseload.
"We continue to maintain over 9,000 recipients of SNAP benefits and 27,000 Medicaid recipients," Kiley told commissioners. She said the agency is finishing up applications that arrived through the marketplace during last year’s open enrollment period and that several thousand applications were received in that process, creating additional processing workload.
Kiley reported that child support staff are working on about 5,900 cases and have collected more than $9,600,000 in current support since the beginning of the federal fiscal year. For child-protective services, she reported 111 children in care as of April 1: 15 living with relatives, 48 in nonrelative foster homes (some licensed by the agency, others by private organizations), 28 in treatment facilities for behavioral or mental-health needs, and 10 in foster homes that are ready to adopt. Kiley also said nine children are expected to emancipate this year and the agency is working with them on transition planning.
The commissioners asked no follow-up questions during the report; Kiley noted the ongoing workload tied to marketplace referrals and Medicaid eligibility screening.
