The Deltona City Commission unanimously approved a charter officer evaluation process Wednesday that uses ICMA-style materials for evaluating the city manager and the city attorney. The commission vote was 7-0.
Under the approved schedule, the city manager’s evaluation period is set to begin between May 10 and June 10 (per the manager’s contract). The city attorney’s evaluation timeline will follow the contract provisions applicable to that office. Commissioners will complete evaluation questionnaires and return them to the clerk’s office; the results will be tabulated, provided to the charter officers and made part of the public record.
A resident speaker asked whether the evaluations would be published; staff confirmed the compiled results and related materials become public records and would be available consistent with public-record law. City staff said the evaluation templates and procedures were prepared in consultation with regional practices and are intended to be consistent with industry best practices.
The commission directed staff to move forward with the process; the vote was unanimous.
