Barnstable County finance director reports positive third-quarter position; $76 million in cash noted

Carol, the county finance director, told the Barnstable County Commissioners on April 23 that the county’s financial position for the third quarter of fiscal 2025 was generally positive, with large cash reserves and several funds available for stabilization.

"Barnstable County was, as of March 31, was managing, just under the, $76,000,000 in cash and cash equivalents of the county," Carol said as she opened the presentation. She added the county was managing about 80 active grants totaling roughly $55,500,000 and overseeing about 60 different funds, including 12 capital funds.

The presentation showed general-fund operating revenues running ahead of original budget estimates for most departments, while some line items—such as interest income—have shifted because money has been moved into longer-term stabilization accounts. The finance director…
