Council committee to send $96,965 public art master plan contract with MIG to May 6 consent agenda

The Parks and Environmental Sustainability Committee of the Whole on April 22 was presented with a proposal to award a contract of $96,965 to Moore Iacofano Goltsman (MIG) to develop a public art master plan.

Parks Director Lorraine Hamilton introduced the item and said MIG was selected from nine applicants after the city’s request-for-proposal process. Chris Webber, the city’s cultural arts supervisor, described the scope: MIG would conduct a “thorough assessment of current programs” and lead “robust community engagement” to align a public art plan with the city’s parks plan, the Redmond 2050 plan and other existing policy documents. Webber said staff hopes to bring the contract to the council’s May 6 business meeting for placement on the consent agenda.

Council members asked a few clarifying questions about the procurement. Council President Kritzer and Councilmember Anderson noted there was relatively high interest for the work—nine proposals—and Hamilton said roughly half of the applicants were national firms and half were local or regional, and that outreach and personal contacts helped draw applicants. No council member objected to placing the item on consent.

Staff and council framed the contract as an initial step to create a strategic framework for cultural arts programming and improved alignment with other city plans. No formal vote was taken at the committee; staff will return with the contract for council action on May 6.
