The Washington County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to award a bid for a used single-drum steel wheel roller to Nueces Power for $62,624.38.
County staff reported nine bids were received at the bid opening and recommended the lowest responsive bid, describing the machine as a Hamm (Ham) H10 model located in Humble, Texas. Staff said they inspected the machine, reviewed maintenance records and tested the unit. They recommended purchasing the machine based on condition, parts availability and local service support.
Commissioners asked about hours on the county’s current roller and parts support; staff said the county’s existing roller has more than 10,000 hours and that a local service shop in Bryan, Texas, could support the Hamm. Staff also said Hamm has established parts distribution centers in the U.S. to improve part availability.
A motion to award the bid to Nueces Power was made and seconded and carried by voice vote. The clerk recorded the motion as approved; no roll-call tally was stated in the public record.
The county said budgeted funds for the purchase were approximately $90,000 from the previous budget cycle; the recommended purchase price was below that budgeted amount.
