EDC hears updates on train museum, mill-site cleanup, roundhouse permits and health clinic plans

City staff updated the Snoqualmie Economic Development Commission on several development projects affecting downtown and the mill site.

Staff said the model/train museum project is working on pre-application materials and expects a pre-application packet in mid-May with a pre-application meeting likely in early June. The mill-site property is in early cleanup coordination with Ecology this year; staff said permitting activity on the mill site may begin next year as remediation and financing progress. The railway roundhouse project is in the middle of permit processing, staff said, and the Snoqualmie Valley Health project is advancing but is negotiating development-fee and program-scope issues; staff said Snoqualmie Valley Health has adjusted planned space in response to fee concerns.

Staff also told the commission that a proposed wooden troll artwork is not coming to Snoqualmie because the artist’s schedule and funding needs put the timeline out of reach: staff said the artist is booked through this year and next and estimated that if the city could produce roughly $400,000 the artist might be able to accommodate the request, but that is not feasible at present.

Commissioners asked for follow-up on fundraising, permitting timelines and environmental cleanup sequencing for the mill site and asked staff to report back as pre-application materials arrive. No formal votes were taken on any of these project updates during the meeting.
