McPherson County approves final closeout and $6,000 drawdown for water district CDBG project

Commissioners for McPherson County on April 21 signed final closeout documents and approved a $6,000 final drawdown on a Community Development Block Grant for McPherson Bridal Water District No. 1.
The project replaced about 2,750 feet of waterline, abandoned an existing line, repaired two wells, built a fluoridation station and constructed a new standpipe, Rosemary Saunders of Ransom Financial Group LLC told the board. “Everything is working accordingly,” Saunders said, adding the district had a closeout meeting in February and that some delays were caused by the field representative’s medical leave.
The total project cost reported to the board was $1,342,500.76. The district received a $250,000 grant and loan forgiveness on other loan amounts after the work brought two previously separate systems into a single compliant system, Saunders said. Commissioners approved the chairman signing the closeout paperwork and the final $6,000 disbursement.
County staff said they will deliver signed documents to the state and reconcile the exact drawdown amounts before submission.
Background: The work described restores compliance for the district’s water system by unifying two operating systems into one, the consultant said. Commissioners and the consultant discussed a planned phase 2 and phase 3 of improvements, with similar funding approaches anticipated.
