Staff recommended approval with nine stipulations; no formal opposition was recorded at the hearing. The planning commission’s recommendation is advisory and the Board of Commissioners will make the final decision at its scheduled May 13 meeting at 2 p.m.
Harrelson told the commission the attraction would consist of roughly 26 shipping containers assembled into an entertainment course, operated for about 30 days around Halloween. He said the container cluster would occupy a footprint “a little over an acre” while parking needs would require more space; he described the container placement as “on the left side and then the parking on the right.”
On safety and security, Harrelson said the Paulding County Fire Department would inspect the build for accessibility and fire‑safety compliance and would be present each night of operation; if crowds grow larger, the event operator plans to hire sheriff’s deputies for on‑site security. Harrelson said he had operated similar attractions for eight years in locations including downtown Hiram and Blairs Bridge Road.
Commissioner Aston moved approval with the nine listed stipulations; Commissioner Sherrill seconded. The planning commission recorded the recommendation for approval, 4‑0‑1. As with other land‑use items, the Board of Commissioners will take final action on May 13 and Harrelson was told to appear at that meeting.
