Stevens said MRPC has recently added limited grant‑writing capacity but that CMRPC has provided broader grant‑writing and technical services the city has used. He noted MRPC covers Gardner and neighboring communities and that CMRPC covers other parts of central Massachusetts; the city has contracted with both bodies for different services.
Committee members said they would like additional discussion and documentation — including cost/benefit comparisons and a proposal for whether to consolidate to a single RPC for simplification — and asked to continue the conversation at a future meeting.
Ending: The committee agreed to keep the item on a future agenda and requested that staff circulate materials comparing services, costs, and the statutory differences between MRPC (Montachusett RPC) and CMRPC.
