Rear Main project faces two‑ to three‑month preconstruction remedial work before main contract resumes

Stevens said staff are coordinating with engineering firm Fuss & O'Neil, contractor UEL and the city engineer to map the limits of Pond Brook through the site and to verify whether concrete footings will be affected. He said Fuss & O'Neil is preparing an underground‑structure layout and UEL is drafting a remediation and backfill plan and will provide unit pricing for flowable fill.
Stevens reported a number of proposed change orders (PCOs) are under review. Those PCOs, he said, cover the splash pad, geotextile (geofabric) installation in vehicular and pedestrian areas, revised soil work for landscape areas, and an on‑site drainage modification to match present field conditions.
Stevens estimated the additional remediation and preconstruction tasks will take about two to two‑and‑a‑half months in total: a few weeks for tunnels, about a month for vehicular areas, two to three weeks for hardscapes, and three to four weeks for the drainage system. He said once that work is completed the original contractor work is expected to begin and that the city is coordinating out‑of‑state TENSAR staff to be on site for fabric installation so they can proceed immediately.
Stevens told the committee that authorization is still pending for several PCOs and that Fuss & O'Neil is reviewing the costs. He also confirmed that the geofabric work and items related to unsuitable and unforeseen conditions are chargeable to the bond reappropriation work.
Ending: Stevens asked the committee for questions and said he hopes to report the contract back in active construction in next month’s update if reviews and authorizations are completed.
