County adopts Town of Ringgold zoning amendment for solar and wind energy systems

The Marathon County Board of Supervisors on April 22 adopted a zoning ordinance amendment submitted by the Town of Ringgold that updates rules for solar and wind energy systems (Resolution 21-25).
“Motion by Supervisor Mirage and seconded by Supervisor Drebeck,” the chair announced when the item was called. Supervisor Patrick Sandalski asked whether the edits included in the county packet had been approved by the town board. “My understanding is that after receiving feedback from the Environmental Resources Committee … the consultant that the town was working with was to take that back to the town, work with our attorneys to get their approval and bring it back to the board,” Supervisor Langham replied.
Sandalski said he would vote in favor despite concerns that the language shifting from “required to recommend” could leave the township vulnerable, and the board then approved the resolution without recorded opposition.
The amendment follows feedback from the county’s Environmental Resources Committee and was returned to the Town of Ringgold for attorney review before final county action, according to supervisors’ remarks. The board’s recorded action in the packet shows the motion carried unanimously.
