Superintendent reports testing schedule, events, new clinical partnership and benefits change

Jeremy, superintendent of Marshall Public School District, presented a range of instructional and operational updates to the board, including end-of-year testing, site events, staffing and partnerships.
"This month, in my report, I just want to share that, it's just been a year with a lot of, accomplishments going on," Jeremy said. He noted that the district is in the period of administering MCAs, NWAs and DIBELS and that administrators will use those results for needs assessments and goal-setting for next year.
Site-specific items included Parkside Elementary's spring concert scheduled for April 24 and a goal that 80% of students be at or above reading benchmark by year end, according to the Parkside report cited by Jeremy. Registration for the district's Little Cubs preschool program is open, with some spaces available in three- and four-year-old sections, the superintendent said.
The district reported multiple athletic and activity milestones: more than 200 juniors took the ACT on April 8 during the statewide testing day; nearly 300 students have signed up for prom on April 26 with Grand March at 7 p.m.; scholarship awards are set for May 14; Academic Honors Assembly is May 20; and high school graduation for the class of 2025 is May 30 at 7 p.m.
Jeremy highlighted professional development and program work: teachers attended the Barr National Conference this week to share and learn implementation practices; the high school delegation (High school counselor Heidi Hansen, teacher Emily Snyder and assistant principal Hayden McKittrick) will present at the conference.
On workforce training, the district announced a clinical partnership for its Certified Nursing Assistant program with Avera Marshall. "We are excited to partner with them going forward for our CNA clinicals," Jeremy said. The partnership will allow students to complete 16 hours of clinical time at Morningside Heights, the district reported.
Human-resources updates included a change in the employee medical carrier from Blue Cross Blue Shield to HealthEZ (sometimes referenced as HealthyCEZ in the transcript). Sarah, a staff member reporting on benefits, said the district delayed open enrollment by one week to ensure accurate rate sheets and a smooth transition to the new enrollment platform, EASE.
Safety and transportation updates came from Trisha, who said the Marshall Police Department and the city have increased enforcement and that earlier safety investments remain in place: speed zone signs and crosswalk lights installed in 2022 and added patrols "before, during, and after school" around campus entrances.
Other instructional notes: the ALC students visited an on-campus planetarium; CTI manufacturing projects and CNA classes are wrapping up with internships planned; and the middle school reported recent field trips and that all open certified teaching positions for next year have been filled.
The district invited board members to community events and student ceremonies, including the Spring Cookout on May 23 and the various graduation and recognition dates listed above.
No formal board action was taken on the items in the superintendent’s report; the board proceeded to a second review of policies 414, 415 and 620 after the presentations.
