Seventeen‑year‑old Eagle Scout candidate Evan Boyd presented a proposal April 21 to construct a roughly 45‑foot staircase from the Kingston Recreation Center parking lot down to a fire‑pit and seating area to improve safety and limit erosion.
Boyd told the board he has troop and recreation department approval, has met with the building inspector and will seek a building permit. He plans to fundraise locally, coordinate work to avoid summer‑camp hours, and use adult supervision for powered tools and chainsaw operations. The road agent, Tom Rowan, and Recreation Director Abby Zarkowski are identified as town contacts for coordination.
Select board members asked about safety, permitting, construction hours and site barricading during work. The board approved the Eagle Scout project unanimously with the condition that Boyd coordinate with the town highway agent and the recreation director; the board also asked Boyd to return after completion with before‑and‑after photos.
