Wheeling Liquor Control Commission approves annual renewals and permits alcohol sales at June airport event

The Wheeling Liquor Control Commission on April 21 approved annual liquor-license renewals and granted a one-day Class I license for an event at Chicago Executive Airport.
The commission approved the routine annual renewal of liquor licenses that, if all conditions are satisfied, will bring the village to 72 licensed businesses, a net increase of three from the prior year. The commission also approved a request from the village to serve alcohol at the Rock and Run "Run the Runway" event on June 28, 2025, at Chicago Executive Airport.
Mr. Thomas Sondelis, village staff, summarized the renewal package and the conditions the commission required. He asked that motions be conditioned on: "1, the submittal in good order of all application materials, 2, satisfactory background check results for all responsible parties, 3, the payment of any outstanding food and beverage taxes, 4, the compliance with all current or pending orders of the Liquor Control Commission, and finally, payment of all applicable liquor license fees." The commission specified those five conditions before approving the renewals.
Commissioner Krueger moved to approve the renewals with the stated conditions; Commissioner Papantos seconded. The roll call vote recorded unanimous support from Commissioners Vito, Lang, Krueger, Rafado, Vogel, Papantos and Chairperson Horker.
For the June 28 event at Chicago Executive Airport, village staff (presenting as Mr. Fondor) said the motion should be conditioned on two items: the submittal of a certificate of liquor liability insurance and the submittal of BASSET certificates for all applicable individuals. The commission approved that request with a motion from Commissioner Krueger and a second from Commissioner Papantos; the roll call again recorded all present commissioners voting yes.
No public concerns about the liquor items were recorded during the meeting.
The Liquor Control Commission adjourned before the village board convened later that evening.
