Lincoln High coach and student-athletes honored for state titles; school's bowling program yields scholarship

Coach Crowder introduced three student-athletes: Joe Tucker, a senior wrestler and state champion competing at 113 pounds; Sayuri Casares, a multi-time state medalist and state champion who nearly made a Puerto Rico national team; and Bridal Coulier, a bowler who is a USBC champion, district champion and a scholarship recipient to SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). The shielded bowling program began as a club about two years ago and later became a varsity sport, the coach and principal said.
"They work really, really hard," Coach Crowder said of his athletes, praising their time commitment and dedication.
Board members and the superintendent thanked the coach for his service; the superintendent noted the district will honor employees with 30 or more years of service during Teacher Appreciation Week. Members congratulated the athletes on state-level success and highlighted the bowling scholarship as the program's first such award.
Background and context District officials said the bowling program at Lincoln began as a club two years ago and has since developed into a sport that produced the district's first bowling scholarship recipient, who will bowl at SCAD. The students' state championships were presented during the superintendent's spotlight portion of the meeting.
No formal board action was required for the recognition.
"You represent the best of the best," a board member said during remarks to the athletes.
