WFSU presents free educational resources and family workshops to board

Ryan Lynn, education and engagement coordinator for WFSU public media, told the school board the station offers free educational resources to schools and families in the region, including Gadsden County.
Lynn said WFSU operates NPR and PBS services and focuses on PBS Kids materials for ages 3–8. Programs offered to schools include an online library of lesson plans, professional-development workshops for teachers (with in-service hours), and family and community learning workshops where families watch a short PBS Kids episode and then do reinforcing activities. Lynn said the station prints and distributes more than 3,000 summer activity books and runs a “summer challenge” in which children who complete activities trade them for prizes. Lynn said the station’s summer kickoff event on May 17 will feature career-day activities at the Tallahassee-based station.
Lynn emphasized these resources are grant-funded and free to districts and families, including lesson-plan materials and educator workshops. He said WFSU built a companion website (learningneighborhood.org) that presents themed districts with games and local resource links, and that the station partners with libraries and schools to distribute materials. "Everything we offer for families is free," Lynn said.
Board members thanked Lynn and asked staff to coordinate with academic services. The superintendent indicated academic services would take responsibility for follow-up. Lynn left flyers and business cards for district staff and said he would send activity guides ahead of the May 17 event.
No board action was required; Lynn’s presentation was informational and the board asked staff to coordinate events and materials distribution with academic services.
