Perry Carnegie Library rolls out Google Sites website, readies summer reading and volunteer‑funded repairs

Library staff presented the quarterly oral report on usage, programs and site improvements at the April 21 meeting.

The presenter described a new public website hosted by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and developed with grant support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. "Our new website went live about a week ago. ... The new site is Google Sites. It is much easier for me to work on than our old ... so I'm very happy with that," the presenter told the board.

The library also reported volunteer and Progress Club activity: volunteers prepared mailing labels and refreshments for a recent fundraiser; the Progress Club voted to pay for replacement of some fluorescent lights and to hire a contractor to prime and paint the north windows. The Progress Club plans to investigate rebates with the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA). Staff thanked donors and volunteers for supporting library projects.

Summer reading plans: Staff outlined a summer reading program with age‑appropriate activities (separate tracks for younger children, tweens and teens), in‑school outreach to Perry and Morrison principals for in‑class or assembly visits, and an in‑person sign‑up schedule. The library reported a meeting room capacity of 40 (reduced when tables are set) and said signups will be taken weekly for the following week. Staff emphasized that children must be five to obtain their own library cards and that guardians must present ID and proof of address to link a child card to a parent account.

Ending: Staff said they appreciate donor and volunteer support, will move forward with the Progress Club repairs and will open signups for summer reading in the weeks before the program begins.
