University of Florida team completes phase 1 of West Montemoy survey; 161 properties flagged for further review

Holly Backus reported on April 18 that the University of Florida team working on the West Montemoy neighborhood survey completed Phase 1 activities, which included a community meeting and mapping exercise and documentation of about 330 parcels with preliminary research on dates of construction and architectural character.
Backus said the team has preliminarily identified 161 properties that may meet criteria for more intensive documentation (Form B level). Next steps include completing a neighborhood context statement, finalizing the list of intensive‑level properties with local input, and beginning in June to work with visiting students to fully research and document a selected group of properties as part of a summer field program.
The commission will be involved in reviewing the neighborhood context statement and selecting properties for intensive research; Backus said the research will support future preservation planning and potential National Register or local designation work.
