Anacortes approves interlocal agreements with Skagit County for community court and probation services (20262028)

Court-administration staff told council both agreements carry forward existing arrangements and contain no changes to the cities fee structure. Staff said executing the agreements early provides budget certainty as the city moves into the 2026 budget process.
Councilmember Walters moved to authorize the mayor to sign the community court interlocal, and he also moved approval of the probation-services interlocal; both motions were seconded and approved by voice vote with all members present voting yes.
Staff emphasized the agreements reflect ongoing collaboration between the city and Skagit County and do not introduce new material obligations or costs beyond those in current contracts. Council members said they appreciated the continuity and the advance notice in the budget process.
The agreements will be executed by the mayor and implemented by city court administration and public-safety staff as appropriate over the 20262028 period.
