Belvidere District 100 board elects officers, administers oaths to new members

The Belvidere Community Unit School District 100 Board of Education elected Jorge Herrera president and Jeff Diesselmeyer vice president during its April 21 regular meeting and administered the oath of office to newly elected members.

The board convened at 5:39 p.m. and completed nominations and roll-call votes for board officers. Member Holly Hauck nominated Jorge Herrera for president; Jeff Diesselmeyer seconded the nomination. After closing nominations, the board voted by roll call to appoint Herrera to a two-year term as president. Later in the meeting, Diesselmeyer was nominated and approved as vice president, and Hauck was approved as secretary for two-year terms. The board also approved keeping regular meetings on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the district central office.

The oath of office was administered aloud to incoming members, who repeated statements committing to follow the U.S. and Illinois constitutions, serve the district, respect taxpayer interests and abide by majority decisions. The board paused for a moment of silence earlier in the meeting to remember victims of the 1967 Belvidere tornado, and outgoing members received recognition later in the agenda.

The actions were procedural: nominations, motions to close nominations, and roll-call votes that resulted in unanimous approval of the officer slate and meeting schedule. No substantive policy changes were made in this portion of the meeting; the board moved on to committee reports, staff updates and other agenda items after completing officer elections and swearing-in.

"I do," Jorge Herrera said when asked whether he accepted the nomination to serve as president. Member Holly Hauck read the oath for incoming members.

The meeting then proceeded to district celebrations and the remainder of the agenda, including public comment and several roll-call votes on purchasing and personnel matters.
