Lincoln County commissioners approved acceptance of a $5,000 Farm Credit Services grant and use of $1,000 from the Lincoln County Dive Rescue budget to purchase an underwater sonar camera on April 21.
The dive team’s representatives, Scott Moses (president) and Greg Bristol (dive captain), said the camera was demoed earlier in the year and proved useful in scanning underwater areas. “The camera cost is $5,995. Applied for a grant for $5,000 Farm Credit Services and got awarded it,” Moses said. The group requested county approval to accept the grant and to use $1,000 from their existing budget to cover the balance.
Operational detail: Team leaders described the unit as a handheld sonar that scans approximately an 80-degree arc and detects probable target locations, reporting distance and depth; they said effective detection range is about 60 feet and the device can be used from shore or a boat.
Vote and budget note: The board approved the grant acceptance and expenditure by roll call. County staff said the dive team had sufficient remaining budget authority to cover the local match and that the grant funds would be recorded in the county’s grant fund.
