Historic‑preservation panel says Wise House will be moved and protected after negotiations with quarry and neighbor

The Carmel Historic Preservation Commission told the Common Council on April 21 that an agreement among the Parks Department, a neighbor and Martin Marietta will allow the Wise House at 10750 Haseldel Parkway to be moved and preserved instead of demolished.
Mark Delosse of the Carmel Historic Preservation Commission said the commission had extended protection earlier in the year while the house’s fate was uncertain. He said Martin Marietta began mining nearer to the structure but that a negotiated outcome now appears likely: the house will be moved, landmarked and restored with the commission bringing an ordinance to the council once details and the preservation plan are finalized.

Delosse said the commission had two new commissioners and had completed required National Park Service training for its members. Councilors praised neighborhood stakeholders and the quarry for creative cooperation; Councilor Schneider singled out a neighbor and community members for their work on saving the house.
