The staff presentation attributed the change primarily to the county's new contract with a hauling provider in Smith County, which staff said increased the disposal charge to $50 per ton from $37 per ton.
Commissioner David Thomas said the county is also factoring replacement costs for trash cans into the new monthly fee because many cans previously supplied by the county are now out of warranty. "So residents will still be able to just bring their broken trash cans to the convenience center and get them either repaired or replaced," Commissioner David Thomas said.
The proposed fee schedule was placed on first reading; commissioners were advised that the packet (page 35) lists current and proposed fees. No final vote on the ordinance was recorded during the work session.
