Councilmember Yambe read the proclamation naming the date and outlining services the Center offers, including victim advocacy, safety planning, help with temporary protection orders, criminal and civil legal services, housing assistance and referral to partner organizations. The proclamation noted the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center is marking its 20th year of operation.
Craig Roberts, director of the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center, accepted the proclamation and thanked the council and partner agencies for support. He recognized Tacoma Pro Bono and Our Sister’s House among partners who provide civil legal representation and advocacy. Roberts thanked center staff for their work and noted the center’s twentieth anniversary later in the year.
Several councilmembers thanked center staff and partners and urged continued investment in services. Vice Chair Herrera praised the center’s partnerships and longevity; Councilmember Ayala described a tour she took and commended the center’s ability to create safe spaces and coordinate legal and safety planning; Councilmember Yambe and Councilmember Kuver also lauded the staff. Chair Hitchin highlighted coordination among the county prosecutor’s office, sheriff’s department, Tacoma Police Department and advocates who work in the courthouse.
The proclamation text included a 24‑hour domestic violence hotline number cited in the reading: 807997233. The proclamation encouraged community members to recommit to preventing domestic violence and to use available resources.
No formal council vote was required for the proclamation; the council proceeded to invite the center staff for a photo on the dais.
