County Renames Meeting Room for Former Commissioner, Administrator Ernie Padgett

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners on April 22 adopted a proclamation naming the county administration building’s board meeting room the Ernie Padgett Boardroom.
Speakers at a dedication ceremony included former colleagues and department directors who described Padgett’s leadership as county commissioner and as county administrator. Paul Donifro Jr., a Jackson County commissioner, spoke about Padgett’s long service and recommended the renaming. Julie Warren, director of veteran services, recounted Padgett’s visits to department offices and described his approach to leadership.
The proclamation recited Padgett’s public service: service as District 5 County Commissioner beginning in 1980, appointment as the county’s first county administrator in 1987, subsequent county administration service elsewhere, and a second term as Jackson County administrator from February 2017 until retirement in January 2018. The board directed staff to procure interior and exterior signage identifying the room by the new name and set the proclamation date as April 2025.
Action: A commissioner moved to adopt the proclamation and authorize the chairman to sign; the motion received a second and passed by unanimous consent.
