Waunakee authorizes bid solicitation to two municipal insurers for liability, workers’ comp and property

The Village Board authorized staff to solicit proposals from the two main municipal insurance providers in Wisconsin — the League of Wisconsin Municipalities Mutual Insurance (LWMMI) and Cities and Villages Mutual Insurance Company (CVMIC) — for liability, workers’ compensation, crime and property insurance.
Village Administrator Todd (village administrator) told trustees the village has not done a competitive solicitation for insurance in about 12–13 years and recommended seeking proposals from both organizations to obtain current pricing and coverages. He said both providers have long records of serving Wisconsin municipalities and that a competitive process can sharpen pricing.
Trustees discussed the request briefly; Trustee Sam Kaufman said competitive bidding made sense and could produce a better rate. The motion to authorize solicitation of proposals passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Next steps: staff will prepare and issue the request for proposals to both insurers and return to the board with comparative proposals for selection and possible contract award.
