Council adopts update to convention-center booking policy, shortens advance window

City councilors approved an update to the convention-center booking policy that shortens the booking window and standardizes several operational definitions used by the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau, the convention center and the Omni hotel.
Sue Hollenbeck, special projects manager, said the original booking policy dated from 2018 and that market realities have changed. Staff recommended reducing the maximum number of months out that groups may reserve the center from 60 months (five years) to 48 months, lowering peak-room-night thresholds to improve compatibility with the Omni hotel and clarifying group-status definitions so all parties use the same terms.
Hollenbeck said the policy changes are intended to modernize practice, make better use of available dates and ensure consistent terminology among the stakeholders who coordinate venue bookings. The council adopted the revisions as part of the Public Property Authority and then again in the council consent docket; the measure passed unanimously.
