The Wilson County Commission on April 21 tabled a resolution that would have amended the county zoning ordinance to change the A1 (agricultural) minimum lot size from 80,000 square feet to 60,000 square feet.
The move came after a public hearing in which multiple residents urged the commission to retain the larger lot standard. "I like the larger lot size at 80000," said Perry Neil of Murphy Lane. Derek Johnson told commissioners he had attended the Planning Commission meeting and, after hearing the discussion, said, "I'm hell bent against this." Ken Young, a long-time A1 resident, urged commissioners to consider water-system performance and enforcement, saying in part, "Reducing lot sizes in A1 is a very consequential decision." He cited enforcement orders and oversight by state agencies as reasons the county should be cautious.
