Council issues proclamations for Administrative Professionals Week, Small Business Month and AAPI Heritage Month

Issaquah City Council used part of its April 21 agenda to issue three proclamations: Administrative Professionals Week (April 24, 2025), Small Business Month (May 2025) and Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month (May 2025).

Mayor Mary Lou Polly presented a proclamation recognizing Administrative Professionals Week and invited city administrative staff Lindsey Marsh and Aronia to accept. "This proclamation acknowledges both the valuable work of administrative professionals as well as recognizes the commitment and adaptability the administrative professionals bring to every organization," Marsh said on behalf of administrative staff.

Nut graf: The council also proclaimed May 2025 as Small Business Month, citing U.S. Small Business Administration statistics and noting the city is home to more than 2,600 home‑based and physical business locations. Economic and Housing Development Manager Jen Davis Hayes and Greater Issaquah Chamber CEO Julie Hartwick accepted the proclamation and highlighted recent city/chamber tools for businesses, including a "How to do Business in Issaquah" booklet.

The council additionally proclaimed May 2025 as AANHPI Heritage Month. Local nonprofit The Circle and community leaders accepted the proclamation and invited the public to a celebration May 10 at the Issaquah Community Center; speakers noted recent community stress related to ICE activity and thanked city leaders for support.
