Fuquay Varina recognizes staff for surplusing sales and police training achievements

The Fuquay Varina Board of Commissioners used part of its April 22 meeting to recognize employees for service and professional development.
Stevenson Tracy, director at Pollock Works, told the board that since September, public works employee James Jordan posted 55 items on the GovDeals surplus platform, producing about $107,000 in posted value. “Since September, James has posted 55 different items,” Tracy said during the recognition. Town officials praised Jordan’s 16 years of service and his role in maximizing value from surplus equipment.
The board also recognized several police employees for training achievements. Police Chief Smith said Officer Patrick Dercola earned the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate; Corporal Daniel Look earned the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate; and Lieutenant Anthony Hodges and Corporal Ryan Scholte completed the North Carolina Justice Academy’s Criminal Investigative Certificate program. Chief Smith said those certificates require extensive training and accrual of professional points and hours.
Assistant Town Manager Mark Matthews and Mayor Massengill highlighted the operational benefits of staff who maintain equipment, manage surplus sales, and pursue continuing education. No formal action or budget changes were made during the recognitions.
