Fuquay Varina proclaims Arbor Day, celebrates Tree City USA designation and announces National Small Business Week recognition

Assistant director for parks, grounds and public buildings Chris Newsome told the board the town had again earned Tree City USA status for 2024 and described planned Arbor Day activities. “We will be planting two trees at Falcon Park on Friday from 2 to 3,” Newsome said, and he said staff will also meet with Lincoln Heights Elementary School’s environmental education class at Carroll Howard Johnson Park around noon to teach trail etiquette and the importance of trees.
Mayor Massengill read the Arbor Day proclamation’s language acknowledging the origins of Arbor Day, the environmental benefits of trees, and the town’s commitment to tree care as part of Fuquay Varina’s strategic plan. The National Small Business Week proclamation noted the local role of small businesses and encouraged business owners to engage with the Fuquay Varina Chamber of Commerce and the Fuquay Varina Downtown Association.
The board did not take formal action beyond issuing the proclamations; staff and parks personnel will support the Arbor Day events and school visit described at the meeting.
