Resident warns Fuquay Varina officials about Harnett County discussion to remove fluoride from regional water system

Resident Rebecca Brock raised the issue during public comment on April 22, saying Harnett County commissioners have been discussing a proposal to remove fluoride from the Harnett Regional Water System, which supplies water to Fuquay Varina customers.
“My address is 5220 Christian Light Road, Fuquay Varina... I came here tonight because I wanted to make you aware, or at least explain to you, about Harnett County's Board of Commissioners wanting to — they're discussing removing fluoride from the Harnett Regional Water System, which serves the Fuquay Varina citizens,” Brock told the board.
Brock said the matter first drew attention after a Campbell University pharmacologist raised concerns and that subsequent public comment included medical and dental professionals. She told the commissioners that Harnett Regional Water adheres to state-recommended fluoride levels and that the utility's director noted customers who object could install point-of-use filters.
Mayor Blake Massengill acknowledged the issue and said he has been in touch with Harnett County. Deputy town manager Jim Seymour was identified in the meeting as the staff contact who will follow the matter for the town.
No action was taken by the Fuquay Varina board; Brock's remarks were entered during the public comment period and the town said staff would monitor developments at Harnett County.
