Resident seeks written clarification after selectmen approved snowmobile access; board says issue will be discussed

Bonnie Maclary told the Alton Select Board on April 22 she wants the board to record that a prior permit to the Mount Majors Snowmobile Club did not grant public access for kayaking, swimming or fishing across an easement.
"He is now claiming he is going to drag his kayak down the road and across the easement, go swimming, go fishing, and he has every right to and so does the public," Maclary said, asking the board "to put in writing that that was never that permission was never given, and it's not to be used for that for all the reasons." She said the original motion and minutes authorized snowmobile access only.
Board members said they would discuss the issue further, confirm what the prior motion authorized and notify Maclary of the board’s determination. A board member summarized: "The approval was only for the Mount Majors Snowmobile Club only." Maclary said she would provide additional written information if the board wished.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; staff said they would follow up with Maclary and the town administrator to clarify whether public use is permitted under the existing motion and minutes.
