Fundraising and grants Gallegos said BEF has raised about $580,000 (gross) in the current cycle and awarded $196,284 in Teacher Innovation Grants (TIGs). She reported a cumulative impact of more than $9 million raised since the foundation's founding in 1997. BEF also distributed teacher gift cards and campus disbursements; Gallegos said the foundation netted about $80,000 at its First Mania event (a record) and results from other fundraisers were still being finalized.
Organization and strategic priorities BEF has a 24-member board and one full-time executive director. Gallegos outlined strategic goals including enhanced donor stewardship (a new GiveSmart platform), outreach to alumni and former board members, bylaws and policy updates, development of a board leadership program (president-elect role), and potential staffing to support growth.
Why it matters BEF provides supplemental funding to classrooms and district initiatives through grants and district disbursements. Trustees praised BEF's work and noted that foundation funds supplement but do not replace state funding obligations.
Next steps BEF plans to strengthen governance documents, expand donor engagement strategies and consider additional staff support to manage growing fundraising activity.
