Board hears progress on systems-of-care, Care & Share Center and new student health partnerships

Systems of care and Care & Share Center Trustees reported that the systems-of-care committee had expanded guidance and crisis-response protocols, developed suicide-prevention/intervention/postvention protocols, and increased partnerships with state and local mental-health providers. The board heard that the district opened the first phase of a Care & Share Center to provide immediate resources to families in crisis (food, clothing and short-term items); staff said five families had accessed the center in the prior month. Phase 2, focused on college and career resources, is planned to begin in fall 2025.
Student health advisory and HICADA partnership The Student Health Advisory Council reported that an agreement with the Hill Country Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse (HICADA) was finalized and that HICADA curriculum and lessons will begin rolling out on campuses with optional parent opt-in. Trustees described the program as supplemental and non-mandatory for families who prefer to opt out.
Communication and outreach Trustees discussed outreach strategies to raise awareness about systems-of-care resources, including student-council engagement, campus newsletters, flyers, counseling-corner updates and distribution at back-to-school events. The committee also approved a Care & Share Center logo and reported plans to promote the resource through campus communications.
