ComEd program funds LED lighting replacements in district gyms at no cost to district

Facilities and finance staff told the Facilities & Finance Committee that a ComEd program will replace LED fixtures in several district gymnasiums at no direct cost to the district.
Administrators said the program will bring new LED fixtures to the main gym and the gymnastics (West) gym; the district’s earlier LED fixtures in the field house are failing and the program will replace them with current‑generation LEDs. "At no cost to the district, we were able to replace the lighting in the main gym, and the gymnastics gym," a facilities presenter said.
ComEd pays the contractor directly under the program, staff said, and the district will investigate classroom replacements where ceiling and sprinkler constraints require additional planning. Facilities staff estimated the scope for classroom work could be large and said they will verify which rooms are eligible for retrofit. The fixtures will be dimmable and are expected to reduce operating costs.
Administrators described the program as timely and urged prompt acceptance because utility programs change; they said they will pursue eligible retrofits this summer and will confirm the full list of spaces before any formal action.
