A district presenter told trustees that ISBE flagged the district because it met criteria that require submission of a discipline improvement plan. Doctor Jessica Herman and Larry Varne, director of equity inclusion, will lead implementation with district teams and stakeholders, the presenter said. The presentation noted that ISBE requires districts that meet specified criteria to file a plan and that the district received ISBE’s notice late; the speaker said the district moved quickly after receiving the information.
Board members were told the plan will come back as an action item at the next board meeting rather than being placed on the consent agenda. No formal vote was taken during the committee presentation.
