Parker proclaims April 2025 as National Donate Life Month

Laura Jeffries, chief administrative officer for Donor Alliance, told the council that Donor Alliance serves Colorado and most of Wyoming and that Parker’s registration rate is higher than the national average. “We are both proud to call Parker our home,” Jeffries said, and she encouraged residents to “check the box when we register to be an organ and tissue donor at the DMV” and to share that decision with family.
The proclamation, read by Mayor Rivera, cited statewide and regional 2024 figures provided by Donor Alliance and other partners. The text read in part: “I, Joshua Rivera, the mayor of the town of Parker, Colorado, do hereby proclaim April 2025 as National Donate Life Month in the town of Parker, Colorado, and encourage all residents to consider giving life through organ, eye, and tissue donation.” The proclamation also directs residents to Colorado’s organ and tissue donation registry and the Donate Life website.
Jeffries and Matt LaVitro, Donor Alliance’s chief financial officer, told the council that 62 percent of Parker residents are registered organ and tissue donors, compared with a national average of 47 percent. They also provided 2024 regional figures: 311 organ donors resulting in 947 organ transplants and 1,860 tissue donors leading to nearly 144,000 tissue grafts. Jeffries noted that one donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and affect as many as 75 people through tissue donation.
Council members thanked Donor Alliance and noted local recognition activities, including a flag-raising and a mural at Cimarron Middle School. The council accepted the proclamation and invited Donor Alliance representatives forward to receive the signed document and small tokens from the town.
The proclamation does not create a regulatory requirement; it is a ceremonial recognition intended to raise awareness and encourage voluntary registration and family discussion about donation.
