Student representatives report arts awards, scholarship totals and spring events at North and South high schools

Kweku also cited competitive music results (dozens of first- and second-place awards across choir, orchestra and band), an upcoming community tree-planting project led by botany teacher David Miller on May 10, a school expo on May 3, and an international visit by 20 students from Luxembourg. Kweku noted a new electronic “elastic pass” system that the school says has reduced hallway crowding and described newly approved cultural stoles and cords that seniors may apply to wear at graduation.
South High student representative Jan Sooni Moore reported on school events and student achievements including a Black History Month celebration, a student-designed root-beer can reveal, overseas volunteer trips (including Guatemala) and Luxembourg exchange participation, and strong results in speech, forensics and track. Jan highlighted that seniors have multiple upcoming events (scholarship night, prom on May 3, senior signing day, senior walk, baccalaureate and graduation on June 8) and said she will deliver the graduation speech. Jan also summarized competitive honors: forensics state champions and qualifiers for national contests; records broken in indoor track events; and multiple students moving on to national-level competitions in FCCLA, Science Olympiad and DECA.
Board members praised student achievements and congratulated students named for awards and scholarships. The student reports were entered into the record for information.
