The Eau Claire Area School Board recognized Manns Elementary School for completing a stakeholder-driven update to the school’s mission and vision and presented staff, parents and students with a certificate.
Superintendent Johnson described a process that began at the start of the school year and included students, staff, the school PTA, staff and parent subcommittees and a parent panel convened on a professional learning day. Students were video-recorded answering questions about their experiences; staff and families voted on candidate statements at February family conferences.
The result adopted by Manns stakeholders: Mission — “Manns Elementary School fosters and inspires learning, growth, creativity, and belonging for all.” Vision — “Manns Elementary is a safe and inclusive community committed to partnering with families to ensure that all students achieve academic excellence success while positively contributing to the world around them.” The board’s presentation materials repeated the mission and vision wording and noted examples of the mission in practice, including math discussions, a school art event that drew more than 500 attendees and a multicultural night in which families hosted booths.
Katie Reynolds, a parent who served on the parent panel and whose children led the evening’s pledge, was singled out by the superintendent for her role in the consensus process. School staff joined the board for a short photo recognition during the recognitions segment.
The board’s recognition did not include a formal vote; it was presented as a recognition and certificate of completion for the school’s stakeholder process.
