Committee recommends approval for driveway-width variance at 1221 Summerland Key

A village planning staff member said the property owner has a permit to build a new home with a four-car garage and is requesting a wider driveway to improve access. “The driveway will have a total width of 43 feet, and the maximum width permitted is 30 feet, which means there's a variance of about 14 feet,” the staff member said. The staff member added that there are wider driveways in the area and that the proposed width “would not be out of character for the area.”
The committee made a motion to approve Resolution 24R25, with Trustee Kidd moving and Mr. Nelson seconding. After a staff report and no discussion, members approved the motion by voice vote; the transcript records the motion carrying. The committee chair said Resolution 24R25 “will move to the May 6 board meeting with a positive recommendation.”
Before the resolution vote the committee approved the minutes of its March 17, 2025 meeting on a motion by Trustee Kidd, seconded by Trustee Stromberg. No public comment was offered during the meeting, and the committee adjourned after routine reports were called and none were given.
