Cowlitz County issues calls for hearings, schedules guardrail and striping bids

Cowlitz County commissioners on Tuesday issued multiple calls for hearings and set dates for public bids across county operations.
The board scheduled a hearing on proposed surplus vehicle and equipment disposal for May 13, 2025. Staff also set a May 13 hearing to amend the 2025 county budget to dissolve an internal service fund known as Purchasing Services and to increase appropriations to account for additional expenses and recognize additional revenue. "We have a call for hearing to amend the 2025 Cowlitz County budget to dissolve an internal service fund known as purchasing services," the chair said.
The board also called for a May 13 hearing on an amendment to chapter 6.13 of the Cowlitz County Code (dangerous animals). Staff said the revision is intended to better identify dangerous animals and the process for handling those cases; the county is proposing that such cases go to a hearing examiner rather than a locally appointed board.
The commissioners set a bid opening for a countywide guardrail project on May 20, 2025. Staff said the project uses federal safety funds and covers new guardrail installation (not replacement of damaged rail). The board also set a May 19, 2025 bid date for a joint-agency pavement striping project; staff estimated the striping work would attract bids in the neighborhood of $600,000.
Board correspondence noted letters on several matters and voucher payments totalling $2,491,006.34 were presented for approval. The consent agenda, including the calls for hearings and bidding dates, was adopted by voice vote.
