Calimesa council schedules May 19 budget workshop, sets summer meeting cancellations and holiday closure

The Calimesa City Council set its schedule for budget workshops and year-end closures at the April 21 meeting and agreed to several calendar adjustments for 2025–26.
Staff recommended—and the council approved—holding the fiscal-year 2025–26 budget study session on May 19 at 3 p.m. Council members discussed members’ work schedules and requested staff follow up to ensure as many council members as possible can attend the afternoon workshop.
The council also agreed to cancel certain regular meetings: historically the first meeting in July and the first meeting in September have been canceled; council members confirmed taking off the July 7 and September 2 meetings for 2025. Council approved canceling the regular Jan. 5, 2026 meeting to accommodate the holidays and packet preparation timelines.
On year-end office closures, staff presented two options for City Hall holiday closure. Option 1—which staff recommended—would provide a longer continuous closure during the Christmas and New Year period using the city’s online permit portal to allow some business to proceed. Council voted to adopt staff’s recommended Option 1.
Staff said the fiscal impact of the scheduling decisions is minimal; workload during the holidays will be handled by a thin on-call staff and Charles Abbott inspections will continue as needed.
