East St. Louis SD 189 board honors Danielle Moore and Lonzo Greenwood for service

Superintendent Culver presented recognitions for Danielle P. Culver said Ms. Moore “has shown a commitment to school safety and student success” and thanked her for “thoughtful contributions and support of initiatives that strengthen our schools.”
The board's remarks on Greenwood traced a nearly three-decade tenure. The presentation credited Greenwood with contributing to major capital projects and district improvements, including construction of three middle schools (Young Mason, Clark and Lincoln), six elementary schools including Wright, Officer Bush, Avant Dunbar and Vivian Adams, an extensive renovation of East St. Louis Senior High School, the addition of a Career and Technical Education (CTE) building, and completion of a new maintenance facility. The presentation also said the district achieved accreditation of all schools and several campus recognitions, including commendable status from the Illinois State Board of Education and a Gold Circle of Quality designation for the preschool program.
Culver described Greenwood as “a true advocate for the success of every child in East St. Louis.” family members who attended thanked the board. One family member said, “Thank you. Thank you. Well deserved, I tell you.” Another speaker who described long experience working with Greenwood praised his dependability and community knowledge, saying in part, “when he tell you something, you can count on it.”
The board’s presentation included personal background cited in its remarks: Greenwood is a Lincoln High School graduate who attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville as a Danforth Fellow and later earned a law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law. The presentation also noted his spouse, Barbara Greenwood, and that two daughters, Tracy (retired 2024) and Latoya (continuing district employment), have worked for the district.
The board offered public thanks to both Ms. Moore and Greenwood for their service and contributions to district operations and community engagement.
