A commission member described a ladder about 30 feet high and a tree stand another roughly 20 feet above that, reached by climbing through tree branches. The stand is untagged and, according to staff contact with Sergeant Bronson of New Hampshire Fish and Game, violates state RSA provisions governing the seasonal placement and identification of hunting stands. The member said the structure is difficult and dangerous to dismantle safely.
The commission agreed to prepare a written notice quoting the RSA sections that appear to have been violated, place it (protected in a plastic bag) near the stand, and ask the owner to contact Community Development. Sergeant Bronson told the commission Fish and Game could come out to tag the stand and possibly remove it; the commission said volunteers should not attempt to dismantle the structure because of safety concerns.
Commissioners agreed to monitor and take follow-up action if the stand remains in place after June 1, when seasonal rules require stands to be removed. The commission noted removing the ladder’s lower section or engaging DPW or the fire department might be options if further action is needed, but no immediate removal was authorized by the commission.
