Following the swearing‑in, the department introduced its new canine, Des, together with canine handler Officer Klipp. Director of Police Services (presenting) said the canine program had been restarted with the board’s approval and that Des—named in honor of a late commander, Cortez—will be assigned to the department. Trustees and staff offered congratulations and a short blessing at the event. The mayor thanked department leaders and the public for attending; refreshments and a community reception followed.
