$7.75 million county award will substantially fund Eddie Seymour Sports Complex renovation

Clearwater staff told the advisory board that the Eddie Seymour Sports Complex renovation was the highest-ranked project in a recent Terrace Development Council funding round and received $7,750,000 toward a redevelopment budget the department estimates at just over $21 million.
The plan would renovate the four-field layout and the center building, modernize the site for college-level softball and tournament play, and combine a separate soccer-field project into the larger construction timeline so work can proceed while the complex is closed. Staff said ESPN and other national tournament organizers use the site and that larger, updated facilities are expected to increase sports tourism and related local economic activity.
Department staff said the city had requested $10 million but received $7.75 million; other funds will come from additional sources to reach the estimated project total. The project will update fields 1–4, the central support building, and associated visitor amenities so the complex can host higher-level events.
