The Newark City Council finance committee on April 21 approved three measures: a resolution directing the mayor to apply for a 2025 NatureWorks grant, a resolution to apply for a federal fiscal year 2026 Ohio Traffic Safety Summer Holiday Enforcement Program grant, and a $4,160 appropriation from an Energy Co‑op Foundation grant to buy gas meters for the Division of Fire.
The NatureWorks application was approved unanimously 5‑0. The committee noted the NatureWorks program requires a 25% local match. A city staff member said, “The NatureWorks program requires a a match for 25%,” and committee members moved the resolution forward with a motion by Burner and a second by Hauser.
Committee members also voted 5‑0 to authorize the mayor to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Public Safety Office for the federal fiscal year 2026 Ohio Traffic Safety Summer Holiday Enforcement Program. A city staff member described it as “a new traffic overtime grant that the city is eligible to apply for; it works on [a] reimbursement basis.” The motion to forward that resolution was made by Barker and seconded by Cost.
The finance committee approved an appropriation request for $4,160 to be used for purchase of gas meters for the Division of Fire. Committee members said the funding comes from a grant awarded by the Energy Co‑op Foundation. The appropriation passed 5‑0 on a motion by Halter, seconded by Cost.
