The Sandusky Boards & Commissions approved a variance to allow a 6-foot fence in the side yard at 1802 West Monroe Street, a two-foot relief from the 4-foot maximum.
Planning staff described the proposal as aligning with the dwelling's main building wall—preserving the visual definition of the porch while increasing privacy for the owner and neighbors. Staff recommended approval provided the applicant secures all applicable building and engineering permits before construction.
Staff informed the board that the applicants, Joseph and Irene Richardson, were not present at the hearing and that the property is managed by the owners from out of state. A board member confirmed the property is in the residential-business district and that the owner had indicated plans to apply for a transient rental permit.
Member John Fike called the roll after a motion to approve; members Greg Pujio, John Fike and Dan Delahunt voted yes and the motion carried. The board left the previously tabled agenda item for a later meeting when an additional member would be present.
