The City of Madison Common Council approved four Riverfront Liquor License renewals on April 22 for Red on Main, Rivertown Grill, the Ohio Theatre and Red Bicycle Hall.
Emily McKinney, economic development associate director, told council the Riverfront Liquor License Program has authority for up to 10 licenses, three of which are reserved for cultural-experience venues; the four applicants met program requirements and the restaurants had met or exceeded financial expectations for continued participation.
Why it matters: The Riverfront Liquor License Program is part of the city's economic-development strategy to support downtown restaurants, cultural venues and tourism. McKinney said the city is planning an online application process through OpenGov to streamline renewals, with a pilot for Vintage Lanes expected in midyear.
Vote: Council approved all four renewals by roll-call vote without recorded opposition.
Ending note: McKinney said the mayor's office and staff will present proposed program amendments in May that could expand categories and make additional licenses available.
